What is Root Canal?
Root canal treatment is also called endodontic therapy.
It is a dental procedure designed to save a tooth that is infected or badly damaged.
Inside each tooth is soft tissue called the pulp. It contains nerves and blood vessels.
When the pulp becomes infected from deep decay, a crack, or an injury, it can cause:
- Sharp tooth pain
- Sensitivity to hot or cold
- Pain when biting
- Swelling around the tooth
- A bad taste or signs of infection
During a root canal, the infected tissue is removed. The inside of the tooth is then cleaned, disinfected, and sealed.
The goal is simple: relieve pain, stop the infection, and help you keep your natural tooth.
Root canal treatment can often prevent the need for a tooth extraction.
